Nine rotation blocks:
Orientation and Specialty Pharmacy Practice (CORE) – 6 weeks (hybrid on-site and virtual): Orient to BSW Health and train alongside our talented BSW Specialty Care Team to gain working knowledge of the specialty pharmacy clinical and operational processes
Data Analytics and Quality (CORE) – 9 weeks (virtual): Work with the specialty pharmacy Data Analytics Manager to learn practical application through a variety of projects, including a quality improvement project, and exposure to our fellowship program in Health Economics and Outcomes Research
Specialty Pharmacy Management and Accreditation (CORE) – 9 weeks (virtual): Work with the Specialty Care Team Clinical Coordinator to learn about specialty pharmacy accrediting bodies and standards, and take an active role in preparing for the annual Quality Management Committee meeting, including evaluation of specialty pharmacy performance
Specialty Pharmacy Facility Management (CORE) – 9 weeks (virtual): Work with Specialty Care Team Manager to participate in management of the operational aspects of the specialty pharmacy, including legal, regulatory, educational and accreditation standards requirements, quality monitoring and patient satisfaction initiatives
Research – 4 weeks (virtual): Coupled with the longitudinal research experience and precepted by the Data Analytics Manager, this rotation allows for a robust research project to be completed and presented over the residency year, including manuscript creation
Infusion Pharmacy – 2 weeks (on-site): This rotation allows for a unique exposure to the BSW Infusion Pharmacy in Temple, TX and the activities conducted by pharmacists in this setting
Elective (one) – 4 weeks (onsite or virtual): The resident will have the opportunity to explore an additional area of interest through one elective rotation of choice. Current offerings are Academia, Managed Care, and Clinic-based Specialty Pharmacy, or explore creation of a new experience to meet the educational goals of the individual resident, as available. This experience could be on-site or virtual, depending on the elective selected.
Clinical Specialty Administration – 4 weeks (on-site or virtual): Work with the Central Texas Specialty Manager who oversees the clinic-embedded specialty pharmacists and Pharmacy Prescription Services technician team to actively participate in management of clinic-based specialty staff
Finance – 4 weeks (virtual): Work with the Specialty Care Team Manager to participate in all aspects of financial management of the specialty pharmacy
Four longitudinal experiences:
Research – 44 weeks (1 day every 3 weeks + 4-week rotation - virtual): Coupled with the longitudinal research experience and precepted by the Data Analytics Manager, this rotation allows for a robust research project to be completed and presented, including manuscript creation
Leadership – 44 weeks (1 day every 3 weeks - virtual): Explore and grow in your personal leadership style through a series of topic discussions and developmental activities
Human Resources – 41 weeks (1 day every 3 weeks – hybrid onsite and virtual): Lead and evaluate a clinical staff team throughout the residency year in their personal growth, development and performance using a variety of ongoing metric evaluation, auditing and feedback sessions.
Staffing – 45 weeks (0.5 days every week - virtual): Participate in the specialty care team clinical workflow to build relationships with colleagues and patients, and improve administrative problem-solving skills through understanding of process issues
