Pediatric infectious disease specialists treat children with severe or uncommon infections. These can be infections that are difficult to identify, hard to treat, or complicate conditions like prematurity or cancer. We also care for children with compromised immune systems.
If your pediatrician thinks your child has a complicated infection, they may refer you to the pediatric infectious disease team at Baylor Scott & White McLane Children's in Temple.
The pediatric infectious disease team is also involved in research projects—such as yearly influenza studies—to find new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat infectious diseases.
Our Central Texas doctors treat complicated infections and rare infectious diseases. We also coordinate care for children with weakened immune systems. In addition to surgical infections and antibiotic/antimicrobial-resistant diseases, we treat:

Our team in Temple coordinates care for kids with drug-resistant infections, including community-acquired methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
Children with cancer, primary immune deficiency disorders, HIV/AIDS, and premature babies have weakened immune systems. This makes them more likely to catch common germs and makes even simple conditions, like a cold, potentially serious illnesses. Our infectious disease team coordinates care for these children to help them avoid or control infection and to treat their illness as early as possible.
