The Family Medicine Residency Program at Baylor University Medical Center, part of Baylor Scott & White Health, is a three-year program that is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
We offer a faculty-resident ratio of 1:3 in a Level 1 Tertiary Care Center coupled with outpatient experiences across Dallas from the inner city to the suburbs. We accept five (5) residents per year and have a 100% five-year board passage rate. Our graduates have gone on to a variety of practice settings and fellowships including outpatient clinic, inpatient medicine, academics, sports medicine, palliative care, wound care, street medicine, and more.

Elective opportunities
Our curriculum is elective-heavy, allowing residents to tailor training to their career goals. During their second and third years, residents have increased flexibility to pursue diverse opportunities across the BS&W network in Dallas and beyond.
Residents can choose from a wide range of electives, including:

Inpatient
While our program is part of a large academic medical center residents run a parallel inpatient and ICU service at BUMC, providing an experience that mirrors the independence of an unopposed program while benefiting from the depth and resources of an academic center.
Residents manage a robust, diverse inpatient census spanning a broad, curated mix of disease processes, with structured handoff to the BUMC hospitalist team overnight.
To support continuity of care across settings, residents use Epic across rotations at BUMC, Children’s Medical Center, and continuity clinics, with Care Everywhere integration across major Dallas healthcare networks. Second and third year residents may also gain experience using DAX AI Copilot to support clinic documentation.
Obstetrics
Our residents graduate with an average of 30-40 vaginal deliveries, with the opportunity to obtain more depending on individual interest at BUMC’s busy labor and delivery unit.
Pediatrics
Our residents train in inpatient pediatrics at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas, a nationally renowned Level 1 Trauma Center, learning to recognize and treat a broad variety of high acuity pediatric illnesses.
Residents have the unique opportunity to participate in two outpatient clinic sites:
St. Philips
St. Philips is a robust BS&W community clinic caring for the underserved population of inner-city Dallas. Our residents learn to navigate the uniquely rewarding world of underserved medicine with a true multidisciplinary approach by working with our onsite pharmacy team, social services, counseling, diabetes education, medication assistance, and more.
Baylor Scott & White Centennial
Baylor Scott & White Centennial is a traditional continuity clinic serving one of the fastest growing suburban counties in the country and home to corporate headquarters for Toyota, Dr Pepper, Frito Lay, and the new Dallas Cowboys Facility, The Star. Our residents learn all the intricacies of caring for insured and Medicare patients with an emphasis on billing and coding.
On all rotations throughout all three years, our residents are excused from clinical duties biweekly to participate in protected didactics days consisting of targeted lectures on the practice of family medicine, board review, journal club, POCUS training, procedures workshops, and more.
In addition, residents have the opportunity to participate in all conferences and Grand Rounds offered at BUMC and Children’s Medical Center.
POCUS
Our residents graduate with extensive ultrasound experience through our longitudinal POCUS curriculum, dedicated radiology rotation, didactics workshops, and hands-on POCUS training in the ED, wards, and clinic.
Residents will participate in a one-month research rotation at Baylor Scott & White Research Institute in their second year. During this time, residents will be assigned a research topic that they will contribute to through the remainder of their residency.
Residents will also participate in a longitudinal quality improvement project related to the practice of outpatient family medicine.

We use the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) to electronically accept residency applications, letters of recommendations, dean’s letters, transcripts and other credentials directly from your medical school.
We participate in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and abide by its policies.

Elective rotations are available to fourth-year medical students that are interested in pursuing a residency at Baylor University Medical Center. Interested allopathic students from accredited institutions may apply through the AAMC Visiting Student Learning Opportunities application service (VSLO).
Four-week visiting elective rotations may be offered from July through January. Students can begin viewing the courses and dates being offered, prerequisites, and institutional requirements at VSLO starting in March.
